Today sucked!

Today I feel like I lost a small part of my soul.. Today I fired a friend.

He has been a loyal and reliable employee of the company for 10 years.. about a year ago I became his supervisor and have had any real problems with him.. other then him milking the clock a little for overtime.. I asked him to work 45 hours or less he worked 49.. I asked him twice not to do it again.. he did. (I can actually live with the 4-5 extra hours of overtime.. so I was not mad, just disappointed that he did not do as I had asked.)

Then last week, while my fried was on vacation, I was told that my department needed to be restructured. Part of that restructuring was to be, to fire my friend and replace him with someone at 40 hours or less, and at a little over half the pay scale. In return a few of the tasks currently shouldered by that position would be given to another department.

I guess I could have fought this decision, but my friend came from a place of higher responsibility, to this position and did not take a pay cut.. it really is a position that could be filled with someone of less experience and with the lack of direct responsibility, a person of lower wages.. but I fought to get my friend into that position.. and now I have taken it away from him.. I have fought this change ever since he was moved into my department.. and that move was only to make way for one of the owner’s sons.. who took my friends position.. thus making him available for me.
Should I feel guilty? I guess I do not.. I just feel as if, I had to do something bad to someone I like.. and that is a hard thing for me to do.

I have fired a few people in my life, but this is the first time I was not mad at the person when I did it.. it is easy when you are mad.. this was just a very sad day.

So what now.. well I will take applications, and résumés and hope to fill m friend’s spot quickly.. I will remember that to mix friendship with business, is never a good thing.. I will probably get a bigger bonus this year, as my department will show more profit.. but I am having a hard time feeling good about that..

Thank god it is Friday.. I need a drink.. or 12.

Marriage a State Institution?

Marriage, and the state?

I keep hearing about laws being passed or thrown about that state who can marry whom..
Why is it a function of the government at all?
I hear form the opponents of non traditional marriage, that God said that marriage was the holy union of a man and a woman.
But I thought that there was supposed to be a separation of the church and state? There was a time when the church kept all marriage records, I am having a hard time finding when the state took over this roll, and an even harder time finding out why the state got involved in marriage in the first place.

If the church is a union in the eyes of god, then the state should have NOTHING to do with it.

If I belong to a church that says I can marry a sheep, then by god I should be able to marry a sheep. The government can say that I may not use my sheep’s business losses for tax purposes, but damn it if my church says “god says marrying a sheep is okay, then it is okay, by the Con’s very definition of marriage!.

Marriage is not a government institution, by it’s own definition. Marriage licensing should be take out of the hands of government immediately, and all laws pertaining to marriage, as far as who, what, where and how should also disappear. Let government worry about collecting taxes, infrastructure, and the defense of it’s people from enemies both foreign and domestic, and let the work of god be done by those who believe they best know how to define god’s intentions.. and by our constitution, government is not it!

Does sex still sell?

I have been wondering: Does sex still sell?
As a watcher of Spike TV I know that sex is still presenting many ads on television, but I see less and less of sex in the market place in other venues. Have the ad agencies started filtering where they use sex to sell?

(of course not!)
Sex still sells, sex will always sell. So why is it, that we the American People try to bring out puritanical belief systems back out of the closet from time to time to air them in the public square?
The country is all about morals it seems, especially when you look at why people voted for our president GW. I mean something along the magnitude of 7 in 10 said that they voted for him because of his moral beliefs or moral compass.
But still sex is used in nearly every media venue to sell products... and if it were not selling those products, it would fade, from the public's view.

So why do we insist on trying to convince ourselves and those around us that we think sex is dirty? And "something private for the bedroom of married people only".. get real!

Sex is natural and perhaps the greatest gift of the creator.. nothing feels as great as the act of attempted proliferation.. don’t you think that was done with purpose (for all of you pitching intelligent design) So what's the hang up?

Disease: Alright disease is a very real concern for those who choose to have multiple sex partners.. but .. and I will type this slowly so you can understand.. the act of KISSING can spread disease.. many as deadly or deadlier than AIDS.
Yep. I said it.. hepatitis B, TB, and others are included... so why isn’t there a moratorium on dating and kissing? Because that whole idea is "just too much", so like in so many things the morally correct, are attempting to win their argument in steps.. by scaring the hell out of us, with diseases like aids. (Don’t get me wrong HIV is very real.. and it will kill you.. ) My only point is, that you are safer having protected sex, without kissing your partner, then you are to have no sex and kiss your date.
We should be saying to the youth.. screw all you want,, just don’t kiss.. and stop with the oral sex isn't sex thing.. that needs to be protected too!
Whatever happened to honesty as a moral value? Well my feel on it, is that as long as being dishonest causes a person to believe in a "larger" moral value .. (sex) then truth can go out the window for so many people in power. It is the old story of ends justifying the means.. but what is really happening is a truth that they themselves refuse to face.. that is "any prohibition, only servers to drive an activity underground, and away from truthful education, care, and even prevention.
So I say to each and every one of you, celebrate the sexual being, the sexual gift you were endowed by your creator, and have a nice safe encounter with someone today!
Flavored condoms are a good thing!

So ladies this is aimed at you, because us men have no clue.. find a guy you like, admire, or find sexy.. tell him you would like to show him how much you think of him.. place flavored condom on member.. and give him a treat. In return, ask him to do same through oral dam. OR give him a real treat and yourself to and enjoy the act of mating with him.. but only with a condom and NO KISSING! It is relatively safe, it is definitely kind, and oh so thrilling for the first time you are with somone .. there is nothing better! And who knows you may even fall in love?

Blogging about blogs

Blogging about blogs
Because I am so interested in getting my blog into other peoples hands I have been reading blogs , looking for that one tip that my just make the difference, between vast readership and obscurity. (Right now obscurity is the norm for this blog.. fo shizzle)
I find it interesting that there are so many blogs about blogging.. seems that any topic is open for scrutiny so why bog about blogs?
Perhaps it is a lack of subject matter? Perhaps it is just what we all think about while we’re blogging? Hell I am doing it right now!
The blogs I hate most ore the bad poetry blogs.. why is it that so many people think that they can write poetry? Why does anyone still write poetry? Does anyone read it?
I like to read Poe, and in some cases he is a poet.. but not many.
I also own a copy of Robert Burns poetical works.. but it is an original, I own it for it’s historical significance, and not because I like to read him .. well I did read it once.. and I have to say he is about the hardest poet to read in history.. I am just glad he died about 200 years before the blog was invented!
So my fellow bloggers.. I say to you.. DOWN with bad poetry! Up with blogging about politics, day to day life, and other things that aren’t as painful as root canal surgery!
Or helo just write bad poetry and be happy.. why should I care.
