a blurry eyed.. slow day at work.

Perhaps I cannot be pleased with life?
I can remember days in the not too distant future, where I was begging for a break in the action.. today.. it is slow.. so very, very slow.. each second feels like a lifetime.. okay maybe not a lifetime.. but perhaps 9 seconds.. that makes for a mighty long 9 hour work day.. and I still have nearly three hours to go! Arrrrrggggghhhhhhh!

so here i am.. checking email.. going to www.big-boys.cm and looking at funny and sexy videos.. really I go there for the funny ones.. but hey sexy is a nice bonus.

I have emailed friends, read emails from admirers, and detractors alike, clipped my fingernails.. washed my hands about 50 times.. drank a pot of coffee.. and it is still only 3:20!

I have sent both of my helpers home.. I got tired of their "I wanna start my weekend" looks. I would comment on the news, but lets face it, most of it is sad or fiction.. or both.. politics.. same deal.
I have read entries in nearly 50 blogs today.. some were pretty good, but none so good or obnoxious that I feel a need to comment here on them.

I feel like I have made a friend today.. a fellow blogger, she is young and in collage, and funny and smart.. all the things I wish I was right now.. well I like being male, but other than gender, I am a little envious.. With an attitude like hers I am sure she will go far.. I kinda hope we can keep our pen pal like friendship up for a while.. it will be fun to see her experience , for the first time, some f the things I did years ago. I think the thing I like most is the underlying optimism I feel from her.. the world needs more positive feelings.. (jesus I should go sing Kum-baya now...)

I love youth, when it is good and positive.. I am envious of the young, in some ways, and glad that I have that portion of life behind me in other ways.. I mean what a scary world to be in, if you don;t know where you are going in life.. when I was a kid in high school, I remember thinking it will all work out.. and for hte most part it has.. but as a youth of today, I don;t know if I would be so care-free as I was then. And isn;t being care-free part of living a young life?

Well I am digressing.. like this wasn't all a big digression from my day anyway.. my point its this.. I am proud to have my new "friend" and know that it will be a very good time seeing things from a younger perspective. In the place I am now, most of the younger people I come in contact with, have to keep me at arms length, because I can either fire them or make them move out and get jobs.. it is refreshing to have this insight into the life of someone with their whole future stretched out ahead of them. In some strange way, it makes me feel a little younger too.

When do you live?

When are you? I mean when are you right now?

I saw a study that said that people of various religions live in different times.. Not literally, but meaning that they live in the Past, the Future, or the now.
Buddhists were , according to this report, most likely to live in the "now".
Funny, I seem to have changed my life perspective over the years. I used to live in the future, always looking at what I hoped to be one day.
Now I find myself living more and more in the past, looking back at good times and bad.. Mostly good.
I wonder if at anytime during that pendulum swing, I lived in the now?
Even as an experimenting Buddhist in the late teen years of my life, I think I lived more with an eye to the future, than an eye in the present.
I wonder what the trick is to living in the "now"?
Where are you today.. Or should I say "When are you today?"

Bird Flu.. what’s the big deal? I may be missing somthing here? Can you Help?

Bird Flu.. what’s the big deal?

I think I may be missing a piece of the puzzle.. why are we all so worried about the Bird Flu? (Avian Influenza)
Aren’t there new strains of flu nearly every year? Ha s the Bird Flu started killing otherwise healthy people?
I have a medical background, and to me this seems like just another flu virus, that may or may not cause harm to the human population.
Sure, I feel that things like emerging influenza viruses need to be monitored, and that organizations like the WHO need to watch for signs of pandemic, but why is this strain getting so much attention , and why right now?
The Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 – 1920 was horrific, it killed people in their prime, and did so quickly, but what makes Avian Flu like the Spanish flu? Other than that they are both viruses?

Is it that slow in the news world that the media feels a need to drive a panic about a flu that may amount to nothing?
Seems like the stories about “Able Danger” should be making more headlines? How about that little war we’re in? Or the upcoming elections? Or that we may get wiped out by a chunk of rock from outer space.. hell if the media feels the need to scare people, we could talk about the geological changes in the Yellowstone Super-volcano. I would bunch Bird Flu with all unknown viruses, as far as an actual threat to humanity. At least at this point.

So here is a list of things to be worried about that may kill enough humans to cause a sudden change in society.. in at least some order of probability.

Asteroid / comet impact
Super Volcano Eruption
Collapse of the Canary Islands causing a title wave that kills millions along the eastern seaboard.
Terrorist use of Small Pox
Terrorist use of Nuclear/Radiological weapon
Viral Pandemic (Not Bird Flu)
Plague
Drought
Famine
President Bush
Hillary Clinton
Alien Invasion
Godzilla
Bird Flu

Perhaps Alien invasion should be closer to the top..
But to keep this serious for another moment, why is Bird Flu getting so much press? Does anyone have an answer?
Could it be just so Bush could test the waters of bringing the military in to confine the population, violating

Posting on other people's blogs..

Why is it that people, because they can basically be anonymous, leave rude comments in people's blogs?
I know for the most part it is young men, okay boys, that do this, (13-20) and we all know that in that age range many young men, have only one thing on their minds.. and it ain;t being kind to their fellow man.
I mane, if a blogger takes the time to write a paragraph.. or several about a subject, shouldn'
t you take the time to leave a more thoughtful comment that "Dude.. you suck." or "uR A FaG" okay perhaps it's cute when you call your little friends a fag, but you ain;t my friend.. Well at least not yet. If I want abuse I will ask my wife how she feels about something.. So come on boys.. Get your heads out of your asses and take the time to write a sentence or two, use a little thought when you post.. Hell this is going on your permanent record, so you might was well make it count.
Be thoughtful when you cut another persons work to shreds.. That's all I ask.
Or be a turd, and the world will continue to not take you very seriously.. the choice is yours.

The Fall of another American Giant. GM.. the Delphi story..

The Fall of another American Giant. GM.. the Delphi story..

Which came first the chicken or the egg?
This may be the question on the minds of analysts all across this great land of ours, as Delphi, a major supplier to GM seeks Ch. 11 Bankruptcy Protection.

As a person who works inside the world of Automotive Sub-Contractors, I have seen on the horizon for the last 18 months, this fall in progress.
Perhaps it will stop with Delphi, but I doubt it.
For the last several months, more so than in the past, auto manufacturers, GM, Ford and to a lesser degree Chrysler, have been squeezing, and squeezing their suppliers for lower and lower prices, to the degree that after money is spent on expensive tooling, one of the big three threatened to pull the contract, if the per part price that they wanted was not met. For this one supplier it meant immediate bankruptcy, vs. a slow bleeding to death supplying parts at less than cost. This supplier elected to bleed a while and hope for a more lucrative contract to make up for his loss. My parts from them were subsequently made more expensive. While my friend would not admit that he did this as a way to stem the bleeding, from his Auto contract gone bad, it still makes me feel like I am the one giving corporate welfare to tone of the Big 3!

So who’s to blame? The Corp. Execs at the Big 3? The Unions? Healthcare costs?

My thinking leads me to believe it is a little of all three and other factors that we cannot see.

The U.S. Auto industry in the states is sick, and perhaps dying. This comes from excessive salaries for both the production employees, as well as the executives. It comes from the Unions, who mandate some very silly and restrictive rules upon the companies that rely on Union labor. (Example, a supervisor cannot jump onto a hi-lo to move a skid, if it is in the way, but rather a union hi-lo operator must be called to move it).
Healthcare costs, are clearly out of control, if you are an employer, you see this every day.
Lack of vision, has made the pension plans, which are very generous, not sustainable, (reminds me of Social Security in many ways when you hear the pros and cons talk about them).
A squeezing of supplier has lead to many going off shore for assembly work, so in effect the unions and the management of these companies together have driven jobs off-shore.
The lack of quality, perceived or real in US made cars, has driven the US consumer to look at foreign made vehicles, more and more. I have news for you, a European Ford, is relatively the same cost to buy, but has much better fit and finish, and appears to be a higher quality vehicle.
The EPA and DOT, have been restrictive enough to increase costs of American Cars again forcing people to look to off-shore manufacturers.
The Unions have come into the smaller supplier and made Union shops out of shops that have been around for years, supplying to the Auto Manufactures. This drives their cost of operation up, while the customers (the Big -3) are squeezing for lower prices / costs. This is making more than a few close up shop. Making the employees that the unions were supposed to protect, now unemployed.

To get a good feel of the U.S. Auto industry health, just look at the employment numbers from the State of Michigan. Pretty dismal, and only bound to get worse if practices do not change and change fast.

My shop is not union, if it is ever made union, it will have to consider closing, or moving south, we currently operate at a 4% net profit. It will not take too many supervisors, or persons who cannot do more than one job, i.e. drive a Hilo, + wrap product for shipping + load trucks + receive parts to eat my 4% up.

How do we fix it?
I do not know. If you listen to the Cons, you fix it by getting rid of unions, tariffs on foreign goods, etc..
If you listen to the Libs, you make every shop union, you tax everyone to pay for pensions for everyone, you put a ceiling on CEO salaries, and you create universal healthcare..

I don’t know about you, but I don’t think either will fix the problem, and both cases not addressing the core issues. I just hope that some economist out there somewhere is making a magic potion to fix this problem, because in the end, it is not just the Auto industry that these effects are being felt in, it is our whole economy out whole industrial complex, it is only starting in the Auto sector, it will be coming to a company near you soon.

Conspiracy theory Anti-Depressant Drugs and Gun Control & Free Universal Healthcare!

Conspiracy theory Anti-Depressant Drugs and Gun Control

Well my fellow Conspiracy theory readers. Allow me to put this out there for you to expand upon.. pass it on to conspiracy theory writers and watch the fireworks if you will.

I have not read this any other place, so perhaps this is a first?

It has been brought to my attention that in many areas of the country, that you second amendment right to keep and bare arms is stripped from you, if you have been placed on anti-depressant drugs!

It strikes me as funny, that there are so many advertisements for anti-depressants on television, and in print, and to a lesser degree on radio.

Is this the latest ploy of our government to make sure that the populace is not armed?
What is the government’s master plan? Why is it so important to them, to keep us the citizens from having a way to effectively protect ourselves?
Could this, in conjunction with Universal healthcare, ensure that more and more of the population cannot get a permit to carry or even purchase a firearm in the future?

Is this just the beginning of the age of American totalitarianism?

Could be???
I take Paxil.. how about you? (I became addicted to it during a smoking cessation, attempt, and was diagnosed as “depressed” during my withdrawal from it!

Add this to the mix.. more and more children and adults are being placed on medication for ADD or ADHD.. this to is seen as a psychological disorder.. and using the broad brush law in my area.. if you are currently, or have been at anytime diagnosed with a psychological disorder, you may not acquire a permit to carry a firearm. Nor may you obtain a permit to purchase a handgun. (Rifles and shotguns are slated for similar legislation, even as I write this..)

What other maladies can be put down as psychological disorders? (That are currently being treated with drugs, that have to be prescribed, thus requiring a doctor to make a diagnosis?) Over eating.. under eating.. fatigue.. unexplained muscle soreness.. = depression (yep saw that one on TV last night!), the list will continue to grow, until every American adult can be diagnosed with one for or another of psychological disorder.

Can you think of a better way to get the guns out of the hands of those who may revolt? Give universal healthcare, have a government doctor diagnose you as depressed.. and viola’ no guns for you.

I can almost hear the lines of storm trooper goose-stepping out side my office right now.. can’t you?
