Patriot Act Revisions make American S.S. ?

While having lunch I heard something disturbing from a political conservative..

It would seem that the New Patriot act, gives National Police Powers to the Secret Service.
And that they stretch past the normal powers governed by the constitution, allowing them to arrest “without warrant” and other powers that seem to skirt the 4th amendment.

Furthermore the jurisdiction of this new Secret Police is to be anywhere that the director dictates, where up and until now, the jurisdiction of the Secret Service was rather confined and limited.

What the hell is our government thinking?
Talk about taking a page out of the Nazi handbook.

I am not proposing that our government will use the new powers given to the Secret Service to turn them into the Gestapo but the fact that this law makes it possible scares the hell outta me!

What scares me even more, is that nobody seems to know about this! Where are the people we normally hear bitching about every new executive power? I think that this would be a great speaking point for Dean.. after all he is the Democratic Parties bull horn on all things controversial.

I don’t know Toto but we might just be fucked.

check out Section 608 of the "USA PATRIOT IMPROVEMENT AND REAUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2005 "at Thomas Register

Sec. 3056A. Powers, authorities, and duties of United States Secret Service Uniformed Division
`(a) There is hereby created and established a permanent police force, to be known as the `United States Secret Service Uniformed Division'. Subject to the supervision of the Secretary of Homeland Security, the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division shall perform such duties as the Director, United States Secret Service, may prescribe in connection with the protection of the following:

(actually I am not that worried.. but it makes for fun conspiracy thinking now don't it?)

It was a couple weeks ago, but I believe that Al Gore gave a lecture/speech/talk on this subject. And it was a great fucking speech, too. I never understood why everyone made a big deal out of "he's a robot" and shit. I liked the guy. And he was pretty funny when he was just doing talk shows and shit and not speeches. Anyway. If you missed it, you should check it out. I think he would have been just fine as President, as he should have been.
